Happy Valentine's Day

Although I feel Valentine's Day is somehow overrated, I still feel there is a cause to acknowledge its existence. Firstly, Valentine's Day celebrated today is not very much linked to what it was known for - to some quarters who feel that it deviates your beliefs, it is your floor to argue. Personally, I see it just as a gazetted day. A day where lovers are recognized. Just like how we celebrate World Aids Day on December 1st, this is pretty much like it.
I have never celebrated Valentine's with anyone, frankly to say. For those of you who are curious, yes I have been in a few relationships but not one crossed paths with February 14th. I only had one person that lasted with me for more than a year when I was 17 or 18, but again that person was far away hence we did not get to meet and do stuff together on Valentine's.
So why do I describe it being overrated? I think the world has come to celebrate Valentine's simply by giving bouquets of flowers and a sweet little card. While I see that as a bonus, I still think Valentine's Day is to be celebrated more than just that. What about staying in for the day (with this year's coincidentally falling on a Saturday), spending your time with your partner. Do stuff together like cooking dinner, or simply take a breeze walk along the beach. Something along that line. Why has it come too materialistic with fake heart balloons and fancy roses. I think one stalk of rose means lots more to me, with a kiss as contrasted to a whole dozen of roses arranged in fancy papers with mutant teddy bears.
Also, I do not seem to get the idea why some kids are bloody making the whole Valentine's Day celebration a social status yardstick. For example who's dating the hottest partner this year, and some single individuals go to the extend of asking someone out just for the sake of it. I say that's pure desperateness. It's alright to know people but just for the sake of comparing pictures with your peers on Facebook later tonight, that's not very brilliant.
Although it's hitting the end of the day, I still wish you do something right while we still have a few more hours. The day comes again next year, but what are chances are we going to be here, or we would be together with the person presently with us. I've never celebrated it, so while you can, do it at its best. And try making every other day a Valentine's.
People are leased to us on a borrowed time. Before you know it they are gone - be it forever or they have simply moved on. Feelings do not stay the same forever. Only in the past week, two people I know passed away and left the world for good. While we have them, why not enjoy and not think too much what the future holds. At least, even one day when there is nothing anymore there are sweet memories still to cherish.
I have been single since early 2007 with occasional flings (which none I deem to be of relationship status).
I am still single today.
This Valentine's Day despite Friday the 13th preceding it, I got to know someone really special and sweet. I do not hope for anything big to happen as things are very vague at the moment. Having said that I still do think this is my best Valentine's Day gift ever. So to my latest obsession, I love you little perve!
To all of you, again, Happy Valentine's Day and have a great one. On a lighter note, these are just my thoughts and you may have a set of your own. I appreciate constructive thoughts being posted but if you're just going to hit me with unnecessary nasty biased comments, I suggest you hold your horses and put it on someone else's blog.
Enjoy the weekend.
Faris Ahmad.

Gazetted or not, it stems from a Christian beliefs. So be careful ok.
That's a lovely surprise - someone actually commented on my dead blog, well thank you.
Here's a thought - a day that stems out from Christianity: New Year's Day. I am pretty sure you have at some point of your life celebrated it by raveling the streets or watching fireworks, at least watching the celebrations on the tele.
It's weird we're going through this again. Just like how people back home in Malaysia are pushing for Science and Maths to be taught in Malay again, simply to secure Malay as the national language, ignoring the fact to catch up on globalisation and being on top. Afterall, an Islamic nation needs to be there on top to justify its thoughts. With graduates not being able to speak fluent English etc, who would hire us? Who would want to even LISTEN to us?
Also, like how the Yoga issue came up in Malaysia. Hinduism is definitely where Yoga came from, but the practise of physical exercise minus the religious chanting is NOTHING WRONG, it's just movements of the body, just like how you do crunches or jog.
People walking on sharp arranged pebbles for instance, so called foot-reflexology that most Malaysians dwell doing at public parks - now that might have actually derived from ancient Chinese practises, WHICH may afterall come from their spiritual beliefs. (And all that qiqong thing.) They prove to work for health benefits, though in ancient times are very much linked to religions/beliefs. IN these modern day, when we modify them, omitting spiritual/religious beliefs into their practises, I personally see it as no problem to do them.
Same goes to Valentine's Day, take it as a day that you show some gratitude towards your loved one. Don't dwell "Oh in the name of Lord Jesus Christ, St Valentines yada yada yada, I am sacrificing this day, devoted to my other half" NOW that is deviating from your beliefs. Why not just take it, oh February 14th, let's make it a day for my loved one.
Though I sense I know who you are, it's best if I end this with, what about your Christmas sales, Easter sales, or wait, BOXING DAY sales? What's up with waiting for those and to spend your hard earned cash. There would not even be those sales if Christmas never existed, Easter never existed. So are you telling me that because you shop during Easter sales, and since Easter branches out from Christianity, so you are liable being deviating from your religion? Why not pick some other NON-SALES periods to do your shopping? Say in September? That way, there won't be any sales cut, no religion deviation. Hah!
Or wait, so if you would want to change the date that you'd want to show appreciation to your other half - let me ask you. What if I Faris the Great, leader of some weird sect goes with, let us declare every other day besides 14th February is a day where you celebrate your other half. So that leaves you WITH NO OTHER DAYS to celebrate, because if you do, then you'll be celebrating it on a day I proclaimed it, and it may deviate you from your teachings.
Conclusion: Your beliefs, your doings all lies in your heart and how much faith you have in yourself. I may not be the best person to talk on religion, but as where faith is concerned I think all of us do know where we stand. As long as we do not do that one thing we'd never be forgiven - proclaiming yourself out of your religion(in this case Islam) i.e. saying your God is not Allah, then you're still in your religion. And all done, you still have a space to fine tune and ask for God's forgiveness.
Well that's an opinion of mine, so I guess we shall respect each others.
